Michael van Gerwen has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the World Matchplay late in the evening. De Vlijmenaar had strong moments and some less so, but it was more than enough to put Joe Cullen aside with 11-5. Peter Wright also joined the last eight in Blackpool, albeit with some effort.
