Michael van Gerwen impresses and reaches the final World Grand Prix tournament

Michael van Gerwen has impressively qualified for the final of the World Grand Prix darts tournament in Leicester. That is one of the most important tournaments at the PDC federation. De Vlijmenaar only allowed his opponent, reigning world champion Peter Wright, one leg on Saturday evening.

Van Gerwen dropped into the first put of the competition immediately. He conquered it with a beautiful 167 finish. He then quickly steamed to the set win and also gave Wright in the other two legs no chance of a throw out of this set.

Beautiful 124 finish
Also in the beginning of the second set ‘Snakebite’ had nothing to say. With finishes of 94 and 98, ‘MVG’ was ahead 2-0. Only in the third put of that set, Wright had chances to throw a double, but he missed them. Van Gerwen took advantage and wrote that set 3-0 to his name.

In the third set, the Scot finally managed to capture a leg, with a 73-throwout, but it didn’t help him back into the game. Van Gerwen also conquered this set, with 3-1, and won the last set again with 3-0. Including a beautiful 124 finish.

‘Peter was not there this evening’
“Peter is a phenomenal player, but he was not there this evening”, Van Gerwen analyzed after the game. “I don’t know what happened, but you should take advantage of this. I did the right things at the right time.”

Van Gerwen, who already dealt with Gary Anderson, Stephen Bunting and Chris Dobey on the way to the semi-final, will meet Englishman Nathan Aspinall in the final on Sunday evening. He beat Welshman Gerwyn Price in his semi-final battle 4-2.

wrist surgery
Van Gerwen already won the Premier League and the World Matchplay this year. Since his wrist surgery, he seems to be back at his top level. “Everyone knows what I’m capable of,” MVG nodded. “And then they’re all scared.”
