Van Gerwen first trailed 2-0 and 3-1 before he got the match under control. In the seventh leg he took the lead for the first time (4-3), but that did not mean he had shaken off his attacker. Humphries kept going well with Van Gerwen and even took a 9-7 lead at the end of the game.
