Michael van Gerwen down in quarter finals Masters

Michael van Gerwen was eliminated in the quarterfinals of The Masters on Sunday evening. In Milton Keynes, England, Mighty Mike lost 10-7 to Rob Cross.

Van Gerwen averaged better than Cross (96.02) throughout the game with 99.02, but was unable to finish at the end of the legs. At the first break he was already 4-1 behind.

Then he came back for a while and it became 4-5, but the Vlijmenaar was unable to keep his own leg. Cross took advantage of this and defeated van Gerwen 10-7.

“He’s laughing and acting silly.”

He reacted frustrated in an interview just after the game. “That cynical thing, I find it so scary,” said Van Gerwen at Viaplay. “Why do you think the PDC didn’t choose him for the Premier League? That’s because the PDC also thinks he’s a boring player. You’re a player with character, or not. He just doesn’t have it. I start to annoy myself.”

In addition to Van Gerwen, the other two Dutchmen, Dirk van Duijvenbode and Danny Noppert, were also eliminated on Saturday evening.
