Michael Reiziger leaves Ajax and becomes national coach of the Dutch Juniors

Michael Reiziger will be the new national coach of the Dutch Juniors. The current assistant coach of Ajax will succeed Erwin van de Looi after the European Championship. Traveler signs with the KNVB up to and including the 2025 European Championship.

“I am happy and honored to be given this opportunity,” says Reiziger, who previously worked as an assistant coach for the Oranje Under 17. “It is a great opportunity to work with the greatest football talents in our country. Of course I have worked a lot with young football players, so that experience fits perfectly. Ultimately, of course, it is about performance, so we will do everything we can to be successful. I look forward to getting started.”

Traveler became champion of the first division in 2018 with Jong Ajax. That was a first, because never before has a promising team won the title in the first division. He was then moved up to the first team. For the past four seasons he has been the right hand of Erik ten Hag, Alfred Schreuder and John Heitinga.

“It is a good thing that a former top player like Michael will use his knowledge and experience for the Dutch Juniors,” says Nigel de Jong, director of top football at the KNVB. “He knows football, knows what top sport mentality means and is a respected name at home and abroad. With his background as a trainer of Jong Ajax, he naturally has experience with the top talents, and he has shown that he can get the best out of it. can get.”

The Dutch Juniors are preparing for the European Championship. The tournament will start in Georgia and Romania on June 21.
