Recommendations of the Editorial team
In his recently published memoir band “Truly”, Lionel Richie gives intimate insights into his decades of career, as it says in the blurb.
He also tells anecdotes about long -standing companions such as Michael Jackson. He particularly remembers Jackson’s legendary nicknames: “Smelly” – as the “King of Pop”, who died in 2009, was called “with a wink”.
According to Richie, Jackson wore, no longer very baptized clothes; At least in phases of his vita.
Smelly Jackson had no choice
The origin of the nickname is due to producer legend Quincy Jones, which jokingly commented on Jackson’s lack of clothing hygiene. Richie describes that Michael does not rigrate to him this less flattering teasing – on the contrary: “He laughed about it because he was not even aware of how long he hadn’t changed his gap.”
The technical background of the somewhat own “clothing style” was Jackson’s worldwide celebrity: a normal purchase in the city centers around the world would have been impossible for him, and private cleaning staff would have kept his clothes often than souvenir or trophy. Jackson often wore the same outfit until it was literally “intolerable”. Richie describes scenes in which Jackson appeared in Ollen, nasty jeans. He “lovingly”, as he prescribed a shower and fresh clothing.
Despite such shrill, Jackson’s eccentricity did not break off his creative genius – a statement that Richie comments on with benevolent but also unclemed irony: “We all have our quirks.”
Otherwise, Richie does not stop in “Truly” with such anecdodes.
Lionel Richie, the “bridge builder” between Soul, Pop and R&B
Rather, there is a multifaceted work of the soft soul with all its mega hits such as “All Night Long”, “Hello” or “Say You, Say Me”.
Richie sees herself as a “bridge builder” between Soul, Pop and R&B. In addition, there is his political and social commitment, for example as a co -initiator of the world hit “We are the world”. His work as a juror in US TV format “American Idol” is far more commercial, where he “promotes” young talents in a media-friendly manner.
With his Easy Going show tour “Sing a Song All Night Long”, he continues to fill arenas worldwide-most recently together with Earth, Wind & Fire. He is also committed to the “Breast Cancer Research Foundation” or the “Prince’s Trust Charity”.
Richie presents herself a little complacent in “Truly”, but always with humor. A storyteller in front of the dear gentleman.
