MGMT bring back 90s grunge with the single “Bubblegum Dog”.

MGMT have released a new single and music video called “Bubblegum Dog”. The accompanying album, “Loss of Life”, will be released on February 23, 2024. And in the clip for the song, Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser from MGMT go to work in the style of 90s alternative rock.

Soul patches, cowboy hats and the unplugged set from MTV

The video by directors Tom Scharpling and Julia Vickerman can be seen as a homage to various grunge videos from the 90s. The clip delivers soul patches, cowboy hats and the MTV Unplugged set. Mark Proksch from “What We Do in the Shadows” also makes a guest appearance in the MGMT moving footage.

“Bubblegum Dog” is a rock ballad in the classic MGMT style. The eccentric video further reinforces the song’s attributes. “Ben and Andrew are really funny, and we were thrilled that their acting was able to pay homage to the ever-moody mid-90s rock stars they looked up to as kids,” they say -Directors to collaborate with the group in the press release.

“Loss of Life”, which also features the new single, will consist of ten tracks. The record was made together with producer Patrick Wimberly and Dave Fridmann. The latter has already mixed the group’s previous four albums.
