Meyer Burger share: AMAG is probably awarding a major order to Meyer Burger

According to a media report, the solar company Meyer Burger has landed an order from the largest Swiss automobile importer AMAG.

Meyer Burger will supply the panels for all of AMAG’s solar systems in the future, according to the article in “NZZ am Sonntag”.

The corresponding contract for strategic cooperation was signed this week. Meyer Burger is one of the top three solar module manufacturers worldwide, the newspaper quotes AMAG boss Helmut Ruhl. “Collaboration is only logical. We are also making a contribution to ensuring that Switzerland and Europe master a future technology.”

According to the article, by 2030 there will be around 400,000 electric cars from the AMAG brands VW, Audi, Skoda and Seat on Swiss roads. The family business wants to produce the electricity itself – with around 75,000 square meters of solar systems at its own locations. The first step will be to equip the 25 million franc facility in Lupfig called AMAG Academy with the solar cells, it is said.

The solar cells from Meyer Burger are around 10 percent more expensive than competing products from China. But they also delivered better power in low light and in winter. In terms of volume, the deal with Amag for Meyer Burger is comparatively small. “We are starting small, but the Swiss market will also grow massively,” Meyer Burger boss Gunter Erfurt told the newspaper. According to the media report, the company’s market share in Switzerland is currently 10 percent.
