Favorite hosts in the opening match of the American tournament. For Bafana Bafana there is a danger of cards
Stazio Azteca, Mexico City. It’s hard to imagine a more iconic venue for the kick-off of a World Cup. Fifty-six years after the “match of the century” – that unforgettable 4-3 between Italy and Germany – the stadium in the Mexican capital is preparing to take another step into history. In fact, the first extra-large edition of the tournament starts from here: 48 teams, 104 matches and three host countries. And a curiosity: the inaugural match between Mexico and South Africa is not unprecedented as a World Cup debut. In fact, it has already been played – but on reverse sides – in 2010, with Bafana Bafana as hosts. Then it ended 1-1, the last draw ever in the debut of a world championship. Today, however, the Tricolor national team is immediately looking for qualification points: Ahorita, as they say in these parts. The minimum objective is to overcome the obstacle of the round of 16, the highest goal achieved since 1994. And the field factor can help, indeed: in the two World Cups played as host country (1970 and 1986) Mexico always won the quarterfinals, the best position ever. We will see. Furthermore, there is the talismanic Azteca where, in the seven matches played in the World Cup, the home team has never lost, collecting two draws and five victories.
the mycombo vision

And the vision starts right from Aguirre’s undefeated team MyCombo studied by experts Sisal Tipstercombined with a goal from both teams already in the first half. There is a lot of anticipation, for the hosts Tricolores, but also for South Africa, absent from the competition for 16 long years. In the qualifying round, Hugo Broos’ national team – number 60 in the FIFA rankings – preceded the much higher-ranked Nigeria by one point: a small feat, signed by a squad without big stars and made up of many players from the local championship. Given these premises, it seems difficult to think that Bafana Bafana can get past the group stage for the first time in history. On paper they are a working team, inexperienced and willing to do anything to get a result. Even spending a few warnings, the price to pay for limiting the creativity of the Mexican attack. For this reason, South Africa appears favored in the special yellow card market, while Mexico – called to play the match – could resort to corner kicks as a weapon to break the deadlock. Also because among the best headers available to Aguirre there are also the “Italians” Johan Vasquez (Genoa) and Santi Gimenez (Milan). The latter, fresh from a goalless season, will have to work hard to overturn the hierarchies. “Mexico and clouds”. sang Jannacci. To be swept away as soon as possible.
