Some Facebook and Instagram users were surprised this week that they were suddenly following posts from Donald and Melania Trump and US Vice President JD Vance.

But according to the Facebook company Meta Platforms, there is a simple reason for this: the accounts for the President, First Lady and Vice President were transferred to the new incumbents.

Meta spokesman Andy Stone assured that no one was automatically subscribed to the three accounts. However, it is common for their content to change when the office is handed over. This was also the case in 2021 with the change from Trump to Joe Biden.

At the same time, it could take longer during the handover time if you want to unfollow the accounts or, conversely, follow them, Stone said. Some users of the online platforms complained that they were unable to unfollow or block the profiles.

The Meta share showed little change after trading on the NASDAQ, with a slight decline of 0.08 percent to $623.00.
