Merle Frohms: Training with Trapp would be “inspiration”

The German national soccer goalkeeper Merle Frohms has never trained with her Frankfurt club colleague Kevin Trapp.

“If it should somehow arise, it is of course always a new inspiration – but not a must now,” said the 27-year-old at a DFB switch. Frohms is number 1 in the national team of national coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg in the European Championship from July 6th to 31st in England.

After a strong season with Europa League winner Eintracht Frankfurt, the 31-year-old Trapp is part of national coach Hansi Flick’s squad for the Nations League, but Manuel Neuer has been a regular keeper for the DFB men for many years.

Like the entire Frankfurt women’s team, Frohms was at the Europa League final in Seville and then celebrated with the team and Eintracht officials in a club. The goalkeeper came to Frankfurt from SC Freiburg in 2020 – and will not have the opportunity to do a practice session with Trapp anytime soon: she is moving to her former club VfL Wolfsburg for the new season.

However, Frohms Trapp doesn’t take it amiss that it hasn’t worked out so far: “During the season there’s so much to do on both sides. It’s also difficult to push in an extra training session.”

However, the example is typical of the internal relationship between the men’s and women’s teams in Bundesliga clubs: there are rarely joint activities, training is usually also carried out on different training grounds.
