Merle Frohms was injured in the Women’s Champions League. Now the conclusion is clear – it will be out for a long time.

Former German national soccer goalkeeper Merle Frohms tore a cruciate ligament in her back right knee in the Champions League. Her club Real Madrid announced this on Saturday. The 30-year-old is undergoing “conservative treatment,” meaning Frohms is likely to miss most of the rest of the season.

The former Wolfsburg player, who has been playing for the Royal women’s team since this season, collided with an opponent early in Thursday’s game at Paris Saint-Germain (2-1) and left the field a little later with tears in her eyes.

The 2022 European runner-up had experienced a difficult time in sport before moving to Madrid. She lost her regular place in the German national team to Ann-Katrin Berger before the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and later resigned. She was also no longer in goal for the club last season.

At Real she won the regular place in a duel with captain Misa Rodriguez, and Frohms was between the posts in the league and the premier class.
