Mercedes presents a capsule collection as well as a limited edition of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class car model. Both pieces were created in collaboration with the late designer Virgil Abloh.
The car, designed last year and completed in November – before the designer’s death – is limited to 150 units. The car’s launch will coincide with a collaboration with Milan-based streetwear brand Off-White, which was founded by Abloh, the German automaker announced on Tuesday. The collection is available online at Off-White, Farfetch and Maybach Icons of Luxury, as well as in Off-White’s physical stores in select markets. The collection includes sand-colored T-shirts, a variety of sweaters and accessories such as baseball caps and racing gloves.
Buyers of the special S-Class will also receive a wooden box with the Maybach and Abloh logo on it. This includes a replica of the car, the vehicle keys and a carabiner. There is also a vehicle cover which also features the logos.
“Working with Virgil on Project Maybach has been a unique and inspiring journey into Mercedes-Benz’s idea of zeitgeist, co-creation and contemporary luxury,” said Bettina Fetzer, Vice President Communications & Marketing Mercedes-Benz. “This time, developing products that can be purchased has been key for both parties to drive the collaboration forward.”
This collaboration is the third project with Abloh. In 2020, the designer and Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, who was also involved in the current collaboration, reinterpreted the G-Class model. Last December, the automaker and Abloh presented their second collaboration during Miami Art Week at the Rubell Museum in Miami. A design concept for electric vehicles was presented.
The limited S-Class and Capsule have been available since April 5th.
