Mercedes confirm interest in Schumacher

Mick Schumacher can rely on the support of Mercedes in his struggle for a future in Formula 1.

If the 23-year-old does not get a new contract with the Haas racing team, he can hope for a role as a substitute driver for the top team. This was confirmed by Head of Mercedes Motorsport Toto Wolff on Sunday evening after the Brazilian Grand Prix.

“I don’t know what the status is with Mick and Haas,” said Wolff, “but I make no secret of the fact that the Schumacher family belongs to Mercedes and that we value Mick very much.”

If the opportunity arises, Mercedes would be open, according to Wolff: “But first of all, it should be about Mick getting a regular cockpit.”

Nico Hülkenberg is considered a major competitor of Schumacher in the US team, Haas wants to announce the decision before the season finale next Sunday in Abu Dhabi.

Schumacher: “I guess this is not my year”

In Sao Paulo, Schumacher again failed to score points, although he was doing well in the race for a long time. “Sometimes it’s your year and sometimes it’s not,” he later stated. “I guess this isn’t my year.”

Schumacher made his Formula 1 debut at Haas last season and has scored points twice so far this year.
