Meppeler appeals against conviction for drugging and raping 13-year-old girl

A 34-year-old man from Meppel is appealing against his sentence for drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl. The court imposed a prison sentence of 9 years on the man. That’s too long, the man thinks.

The man admits that he had sex with the child, but strongly denies that he drugged her first. The judge is convinced that he did indeed anesthetize the child with GHB. This caused the girl to become unconscious, allowing the man to continue his business undisturbed. The man was exposed because he filmed sex with the child. The child’s mother opened his phone and accidentally came across these videos.

She immediately recognized her then boyfriend. It did not immediately dawn on her that her boyfriend’s sex partner was her 13-year-old daughter. She made copies of the videos and went to the police. The relationship was over immediately. The officers noticed that the girl in the videos did not respond to the sexual acts. The footage was taken in early July 2022 and in April this year. They were taken in the man’s home.

The girl was staying with the man at those times. De Meppeler himself is a user of GHB. He said during the court hearing that there is a good chance that the child had drunk from a bottle that still contained traces of GHB. The judge did not believe the man and blamed the Meppel man for seriously endangering the health of a young child. The videos were first made with the phone in hand and later with a purchased camera.

This was a case of deliberate action, the judge found. The lawyer for the man in his thirties requested an acquittal for drugging the child and argued for a shorter sentence so that treatment can start sooner.
