Shortly after his star role in the duel with Belgium, Memphis Depay reacted to the fuss that arose after his statements about Quincy Promes and Georginio Wijnaldum. “Sometimes people find me annoying because I have something to say or find.”
Promes is suspected of attempted murder, which is reason for national coach Louis van Gaal not to select the attacker for the Orange squad. The former Ajax player scored the winning goal in the Russian cup final, and Memphis expressed his appreciation for his friend on Instagram. It stated, among other things, that people condemn Promes without any criminal offenses having been proven.
“Quincy and I have a very strong bond, and I was proud that he took that prize there,” Depay said in front of the camera on Friday evening. NOS† “Maybe I should have just congratulated him, but I’m also just another person who supports his brother in difficult times.”
Wijnaldum
The Barcelona attacker also gave his opinion about Georginio Wijnaldum, who was also not selected by Van Gaal, after questions from journalists. Wijnaldum gets little playing time at Paris Saint-Germain and has “not delivered” in the eyes of the national coach.
Depay: ,,Sometimes people find me annoying because I have something to say or find. But I’m just answering. That does not mean that I go against the national coach, because I have far too much respect for the national coach for that. I am a human being first, and then I am a footballer with an exemplary function.”
When asked whether he also has an eye on how many fans he has, the striker responded honestly. “Maybe I should open my eyes more. I will soon organize a street tournament in Rotterdam, and then I can see how children react and whether I can inspire them.”
