Melissa Peperkamp misses Olympic final on slopestyle | Olympics

Peperkamp finished thirteenth in qualifying at the Genting Snow Park in Zhangjiakou. Of the 28 participants, the best twelve qualified for the final on Sunday. She was the first Dutch athlete to compete during the Winter Games.

Peperkamp scored 61.26 points in her first run, good for sixth position. In her second round she scored 60.18 points, the twelfth score. When drawing up the ranking, the best score of the snowboarders was taken into account and not the total score.

New Zealand’s Zoi Sadowski-Synnott finished first in qualifying with 86.75, ahead of Japan’s Kokomo Murase (81.45) and Finnish Enni Rukajärvi (78.83). Ariane Burri, who finished twelfth just before Peperkamp, had the highest score of 65.55.

A month ago, Peperkamp finished fourth on slopestyle at the World Cup in Calgary. That was her best performance to date in the World Cup. She also finished sixth and seventh. In the World Cup standings, the young Zelhemse takes second place with 126 points.

Van der Velden

For the men, the qualifications for slopestyle, an event that has been Olympic since the 2014 Games in Sochi, are on the program on Sunday. Niek van der Velden is taking action on behalf of the Netherlands. Four years ago, the Brabander would make his Olympic debut in Pyeongchang, but he broke his arm in training before that game. Van der Velden now aims to reach the final.

Later on, Peperkamp and Van der Velden will also participate in the Big Air section, which takes place in Beijing itself.
