Tennis world number one Daniil Medvedev has reached the semifinals of the ATP tournament in Cincinnati.
In the quarter-finals on Friday, the 26-year-old defeated number eleven seeded American Taylor Fritz 7-6 (7-1) and 6-3. In the semifinals, Medvedev meets either world number seven Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece or American John Isner.
Most recently, Medvedev failed in Montreal a week ago in the second round at Australian Nick Kyrgios. At the classic lawn in Wimbledon, the US Open champion was not allowed to serve due to the sanctions against Russian professionals, but at the fourth Grand Slam of the year in New York (from August 29), the defending champion is again one of the favorites.
