Medals for Schulz and Gelhaar at Para World Championships

Triathlete Martin Schulz won the silver medal in his starting class (PTS5) at the Para World Championships in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. The two-time Paralympics winner (2016, 2020) only had to admit defeat to his Canadian long-term opponent Stefan Daniel.

Daniel won the sprint distance (750 m swim, 20 km bike ride, 5 km run) in 58:24 minutes, 49 seconds ahead of Schulz, who had led the race in the first two disciplines. However, the Canadian was significantly faster in the run.

Max Gelhaar crowned his comeback season in the starting class PTS3 with bronze. After 1:13:10 hours, Gelhaar was 2:25 minutes behind the Spanish winner Daniel Molina (1:10:35). On the other hand, Elke van Engelen, third in the World Championships, missed the podium with sixth place in the PTS4 class (1:21:14). Gold went to Spain’s Andrea Miguelez Ranz (1:12:52).
