Former municipal councilor Wil Kreike (75) has received an honorary medal from Mayor Jouke Spoelstra of the municipality of Westerveld.
Kreike received the medal for his many years of dedication to society, especially in politics and special education. He received the medal of honor in a small group on his sickbed in his hometown of Vledder.
Kreike was an enthusiastic teacher in special education and was actively committed to equal opportunities for children. As a volunteer he worked for, among others, the OER Museum and the Het Foundation
Mantelhuys in Vledder. In addition, he was annually involved in the May 4 commemoration and was chairman of Dorpsbelang Vledder for more than four years.
Mayor Spoelstra: “Wil is a very social and enthusiastic go-getter, truly someone with his heart in the right place. A unique and indispensable person in our society, whose positive impact we will notice in so many places in our community for a long time to come. He is therefore very much awarded this medal of honor.”
