McLaren announced today that it has signed IndyCar champion, Spaniard Alex Palou, starting from the 2023 season. The 25-year-old Iberian from Barcelona joins the McLaren family with whom he will carry out a couple of F1 tests like Pato O’Ward and Colton Herta, but the English team has not yet defined its sporting program, which will be decided later. With 3 wins and eight podiums in 2021, Palou clinched the IndyCar championship in his second year in the series, becoming the first Spaniard to do so.

Also in his curriculum the excellent season in Super Formula in 2019 where he won a race and finished third overall. Palou will join McLaren at the end of the 2022 IndyCar season, where he is currently fourth in the standings. “I am extremely excited to join the roster of drivers of such an iconic team as McLaren – said the Spaniard – I am happy to be able to show what I can do behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car and see what doors might open.
