Lugano, which has a population of 63,000 and is located in the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland, announced in March that it would accept Bitcoin, stablecoin Tether and another token of its own as legal tender. The city wants to make it possible to pay taxes with crypto coins or make purchases from local merchants.

Before that, Lugano entered into a partnership with the company Tether Operations Limited, the team behind the stablecoin Tether. In the so-called “Plan B”, funds were created to support crypto startups and to encourage stores and businesses to use blockchain technology and bitcoin.

A video posted on Twitter by Bitcoin Magazine shows how you can now pay for your orders with Bitcoin or Tether at the local McDonald’s.
