Mayor asks for human solution for woman who choked sick man
The woman, who is also ill herself, is in prison on suspicion of murder. And that is not possible, says Benoit. The court has extended her detention. The appeal will be heard tomorrow. The mayor of Kuurne translates the anger and frustration of the family – and many residents of the municipality – into a call for more humanity and posts it on Facebook. The message goes viral, many people respond with statements of support. “It’s being presented in the public eye as a murder and maybe in theory through criminal law it’s category murder. But the debate is about something completely different: it’s about acceptance, it’s about a process they went through together, it’s about care, it’s about empathy. And this just like a duck from which everything just slides off. That’s how justice acts.”
