Scenes filmed in downtown Potsdam
The red brick house with the lush garden where the main character Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) lives with her family is in the Neuer Garten am Heiligen See. As the “Tagesspiegel” reported, this is the Dutch Establishment – a former residence for servants of King Frederick William II. The Beaufort family’s headquarters in London, to which the main character James Beaufort (Damian Hardung) invites Ruby in the first season, is located on the Old Market. The entrance belongs to the Barberini Museum.
And that’s not all: the St. Nicholas Church staircase can be seen in the scenes at the university campus in Oxford. The Brandenburg State Parliament in the Potsdam City Palace and the Old Town Hall also appear clearly in the series.
The main filming location remains Marienburg Castle
While the third season is being filmed, the second is about to be released: It will start on Amazon Prime on November 7, 2025. The main filming location remains Marienburg Castle near Hamburg, which once again becomes a British elite boarding school. The historic building is currently closed to the public due to dry rot infestation in the roof structure. Filming was initially delayed until experts released the interior again. The fact that it was released for Amazon production but not for the general public caused criticism in local communities.
The second season builds on high expectations: The first season of “Maxton Hall” had the most successful launch of a non-American series in Prime Video history, reaching number one in over 120 countries. The series also led to a significant increase in sales of the underlying novel series at the Bastei Lübbe publishing house.
