Qualifier Maximilian Marterer clearly missed his first third round entry at the grass classic in Wimbledon. The 27-year-old from Nuremberg lost to the favorite Frances Tiafoe 2: 6, 2: 6, 6: 7 (3: 7).

The American, who was seeded in 23rd position, dominated the game, especially with his serve, and gave Marterer hardly a chance at the beginning. After only 23 minutes, the Franconian had to give up the first set and quickly conceded a break in the second round. Marterer kept up better in the third set, but had to admit defeat after 1:36 hours. The game started more than 90 minutes late due to rain. Marterer had struggled through qualifying and had never reached the second round at Wimbledon before.
