Formula 1 superstar Max Verstappen will remain loyal to the premier class next year. According to him, it is not yet clear whether he will continue to drive for Red Bull Racing.

Max Verstappen has once again fueled the transfer rumors surrounding himself. In an interview with the Dutch newspaper “De Telegraaf”, the four-time world champion made a commitment to Formula 1, but not to his Red Bull Racing team.

When asked whether fans can expect to see him in the premier class in 2027, the 28-year-old said: “Yes, definitely. Unless very crazy things happen, which I don’t expect. I hope everyone keeps their word. But I can confirm that I will stay in Formula 1.”

The word in question is the engine adjustments for the coming season. There, the combustion engine should provide a total of 60 percent of the total output, and the electric share should be reduced to 40 percent. “This is a step in the right direction and certainly an improvement on the current situation,” said Verstappen, referring to the 50:50 distribution this year.

“I’m in discussions with Red Bull about this”

So far, so reassuring. Only: Verstappen also made it clear at the same time that he doesn’t yet know whether he will continue driving for Red Bull Racing in 2027. He is “in no rush” when it comes to his future decision in this regard.

“Ideally, I want to stay connected to Red Bull for the rest of my life. I’ve always said that. But I don’t have to make this decision today or tomorrow. Whether it’s here or somewhere else, a lot more than just a Formula 1 contract plays a role. I’m also talking about other projects. I’m in discussions with Red Bull about that,” “Super Max” indicated that the freedoms he demands from his employer – for example in the form of participation in other races – are crucial for his stay.

If Verstappen stops, then completely

What Verstappen also emphasized: A one-year break from Formula 1 plays no role in his plans at all. A sabbatical was out of the question, he said: “If I stop, I’ll stop completely.” However, this is currently not an issue.

It’s not an issue, especially because further rule changes and thus “better racing” can be seen on the horizon. It’s true that he’s having less fun with Formula 1 at the moment, “but at a certain point I’m trying to make the best of it. And I have in the back of my mind that it will be better again next year. That’s why I can come to terms with it a little more now.”
