With a new magic round, Max Verstappen surprisingly secured the pole position for the Grand Prix of Saudi Arabia.

The 27 -year -old Dutch showed in the qualification on the Dschidda Corniche Circuit all its class in the Red Bull and referred Oscar Piatri to second place for ten thousandths of the first place in the actually stronger McLaren.

“Just wonderful”

“My god, guys, just wonderful,” said Verstappen to the box. It is the 42nd Pole in the career of the four-time Formula 1 world champion. Third was George Russell in Mercedes in a gripping qualifying. Charles Leclerc in Ferrari drove to fourth place.

WM leader Lando Norris had to take a heavy setback. Piatri’s teammate lost control of his McLaren and hit the route with the car. “I’m okay,” he sparked on the box.

Norris starts from tenth place

Without spreading round in the decisive section, he has to start in the race this Sunday (7 p.m. CEST/LIVE-TICKER at Sportschau.de). In the classification, Norris leads with a three -point lead over Norris and eight on Verstappen.
