Max Herre and Dexter bring back the East German 70s with HALLO22

The two rappers Max Herre and Dexter release the album HALLO22 on the occasion of the 75th birthday of the GDR record label AMIGA. The label was founded on February 3rd, 1947 and existed until 1994.

The title HALLO22 alludes to the record series HALLO. The first HALLO record was released in 1972, followed by a total of twelve HALLO records by 1976, each featuring a number of different artists. The styles varied somewhere between progressive rock and folk rock to pop.

Max Herre and Dexter want to build on this style. How the whole thing sounds can already be seen in the song “Aus und Vorbei”. This is her version of the Pantha Rhei song of the same name. The GDR rock band existed from 1971 to 1975. Their records were released on the AMIGA label.

The record company writes on theirs side:

“Hi! 22 is a loving compilation of 18 songs, handpicked by Max Herre and Dexter, who celebrate a special era of the Amiga catalogue: GDR funk and soul of the 1970s, versatile and progressive, qualitatively ambitious and emotionally deep.”

The label marketed over 30,000 titles and offered a broad repertoire from folk music to musicals, hits to chansons, singer-songwriters to folklore and jazz to rock/pop.
