Maurizio Costanzo: illness from which he died, diets and weight changes

The journalist who died at the age of 84 had lost many kilos in recent years, first thanks to his fourth wife who kept him “on a stick”, but later also due to illness

Among the sweetest memories of Maurice Costanzo there are his nice interludes with his wife Maria DeFilippi when they talked about their daily lives and especially their relationship with food. They did it sometimes, especially during the interviews with Fabio Fazio, when Maria told that Maurizio often ate sweets in secret and she duly found out.

Maurizio Costanzo and the diet with Maria De Filippi

Just to preserve his health, for many years Maria De Filippi kept her husband’s diet under controlestablished by a nutritionist. Three years ago Costanzo himself told of having lost six kilos in a year by reducing carbohydrates and giving up sweets which were his passion, he also explained that he had found his “existential balance between work, leisure and family”. Constantius used to wake up early in the morning, having slept no more than four or five hours. He read five newspapers while he ate breakfast, then went to the office and stayed there until around 6pm, when he came home to dine with his wife Maria and adopted son Gabriele. After dinner, before sleeping, she always read a book to keep her mind sharp.

Illness and lucidity

In fact Maurizio Costanzo, despite the obvious physical problems, has always maintained his mental lucidity, so much so that he was able to work until the end. His ex-wife Marta Flaviin these hours following the death of his ex-spouse, referred to his illness, he said “it was known that he had been ill for some time” without however adding other details, remembering him for his contribution to Italian culture and interrupting himself from time to time due to tears. In recent years there have been several rumors about Maurizio Costanzo’s illness, the same Maria De Filippi had mentioned diabetesbut what kind has never been clarified, nor is it yet known whether it was the disease that led to his death.

The ice cream

One of Maurizio Costanzo’s favorite desserts was the ice-cream and it was what he could indulge in even while on a diet, at the suggestion of his nutritionist. His wife Maria De Filippi had confessed: “Honestly, staying at home with someone who goes on a diet, I do it too. But I go astray enough, not at home, but outside. Maybe in the afternoon. I have a normal snack”. Another passion of Costanzo was the Rossana candies and Nutella biscuits.

The latest appearances on TV

Maurizio Costanzo worked until a few months ago, in particular until October 2022, when he was grappling with the new edition of his Maurizio Costanzo Show, which was however interrupted precisely because the journalist was not well. He also made a video message from his living room saying that he had some lines feverbut claiming it was a seasonal disease.
