Mattie Valk is taken under a fire as a voice-over of the new REALLIFESOAP by Gerard Joling. “The first twenty minutes were to howl, much too rushed,” it sounds.

Where his series with Gordon were invariably commented by the famous voice-over Rinie van den Elzen, a different voice was chosen for Gerard Joling’s Solosoap. Only Joling is spoken by Mattie Valk, the big star of Qmusic, who nowadays argues with his co-host Marieke Elsinga all the time.

Patrick in Shock

Patrick Kicken, the most important radioocolumnist in our country, believes that Mattie is failing. “I am watching the first episode of Only Joling and I think: what for local broadcaster that does the voice-over?!”

So that appears Mattie, he notes in his Mouthpiece-Column. “Yes, it is Mattie who speaks. Well, reads. With probably the same paper -thin microphone that he also uses during his radio shows.”

Other extreme

Hadn’t Rinie’s Juicy voice been better? “I understand that you cannot always keep falling back on the voice of Rinie van den Elzen, but this is the other extreme. Someone who clearly does not have the gift to give such a TV show just that little bit extra skeu, which looks wonderfully away.”

He continues: “Ahead, I have to admit that as the episode progressed, Mattie clearly got a little more confidence in it that he could take this to a sufficient and so he played a bit more with his voice and created a little atmosphere. But the first twenty minutes were to whine.”

‘Far too rushed’

Mattie was really not made for this, says Patrick. “Far too rushed, much too read and totally not appropriate for the cosiness of Joling himself.”

“The biggest mistake that radio makers make is that they think they can do the rest. Take Marieke, who thinks she can wear TV programs solo, even a big quiz. Self-overestimation? Or is it because of program bosses at the TV that no longer knows?”, He concludes.
