Matthijs van Nieuwkerk once fired his make-up artist because he was angry with her hairdryer, but now it has become a complete disaster. After almost a year of absence from TV, his haircut seems neglected.
It was a great publicity stunt by Özcan Akyol: yesterday, for the presentation of his new novel, he invited Matthijs van Nieuwkerk to receive that book. There was only a camera crew from Özcan’s own Today Inside, so the fallen DWDD star was not bothered by all kinds of press mosquitoes. He was visibly comfortable.
Matthijs’ hairdryer broken?
Maybe a little too comfortable. Although Matthijs of course knew that he would be in the spotlight at that event, he was not exactly dressed up. There really wasn’t any volume in his hairstyle. And yet he once fired his make-up artist Jelleke van Rijkracht because he no longer thought her hairdryer was good enough.
Is Matthijs own hairdryer now also broken? Or is he just not that vain anymore? One thing is certain: he could use a little refresher, especially now that he is so emphatically preparing for a comeback. Luuk Ikink at the RTL Boulevard desk: “Rob, Matthijs does that more and more, doesn’t he? Just go outside and show his face.”
Rebellious
Yes, colleague Rob Goossens agrees. Although he mainly sees this as a PR stunt by Özcan. “Matthijs must be thinking: I have to be on television again someday, and now it is also nice for Eus, because he wants to come across as a bit rebellious. He has known for a long time that the whole of the Netherlands would like it if Matthijs van Nieuwkerk returns.”
Now that almost everyone has left, Özcan is apparently taking the lead in his comeback. “Now it seems like Özcan has made a very exciting delivery of the first book.”
Very moved
Matthijs raved about Özcan during the presentation. “I’m actually always moved by you. Your immense hunger, desire and eagerness in everything you do. At VI too, a bit of that opinion factory, a bit of chatting, you can do that well too!”
René van der Gijp thinks that Matthijs is putting him down very much. “I knew Matthijs could do this, but he’s really going a bit crazy now.”
Completely right
Özcan is pleased that Matthijs has accepted his invitation. “People asked me why I asked him to receive the first copy. Why not?”
