Matthijs van Nieuwkerk grabs million viewers: ‘A big dip in viewership’

The new Matthijs van Nieuwkerk quiz The Connection started on Saturday evening with just over a million viewers. An excellent score, but: “He does cause a big dip.”

Matthijs van Nieuwkerk can be seen for the first time as the presenter of a major quiz show. His new program The Connection started yesterday with 1 million viewers (22% market share) on NPO 1. An excellent score, but the Achtuur news (1.5 million and 37%) before it and Even Tot Hier (1.8 million and 37%) ) afterwards attracted much more attention.

Careful start

Tina Nijkamp, ​​former channel boss of SBS 6, therefore speaks of a cautious start. “Million viewers, but a dip in viewing figures, especially in terms of market share. So it’s exciting to see what the second episode will score,” she says.

The quiz was devised by the TV company MediaLane of Iris van den Ende, the daughter of Joop van den Ende. “Wondering how the format rights are distributed if the format is sold abroad. 50/50 NPO and MediaLane?” she wonders.

Positive Angela

Matthijs started last Thursday with yet another new show: POP22. That scored quite moderately: the show with co-host Ilse DeLange attracted only 605 thousand viewers (13%). Given the viewing figures, Angela advises not to put that on flagship NPO 1, but on NPO 2 or 3. “605,000 is far too little to be called a success.”

Even Tot Hier was by far the big winner of the TV evening yesterday with the aforementioned 1.8 million viewers (37%). The most viewed alternatives at half past nine were De 1 Percent Quiz with 740 thousand viewers (16%) on RTL 4 and Het Roer Om with 403 thousand viewers (9%) on SBS 6.

The Connection was the winner at half past eight. Chantal Janzen takes silver in this time slot with 863 thousand viewers (20%) for Oh Wat Een Jaar. This is followed by Here Are The Van Rossems with 684 thousand viewers (15%) on NPO 2 and Code van Coppens with 374 thousand viewers (8%) on SBS 6.
