Matthijs’s biggest performance since the DWDD drama should have become a triumph, but his comeback did not exactly go smoothly. “People walked away angry.”
What was meant as a stylish reunion of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk with live music and familiar faces, ended in a somewhat messy evening: his presentation of the Concert Evening Royal Park Live at Paleis Soestdijk was disappointing last weekend, especially with the audience, which was audibly disappointed and even angry home.
Abrupt end
What exactly is it? According to Luuk Iink, who lives close to the palace, it was ‘great’. “A lot of people thought that. It really buzzes in Soest how nice this has been,” he says in RTL Boulevard. “Jan Slagter would also have been there and maybe that is a kind of harbinger for a new TV program.”
Is there really no dirt in the air? “It was exactly at eleven o’clock, because we love our night’s rest in Soest enormously, so at eleven it all had to get out. The last song could no longer be played.”
“Not great!”
One of the visitors, Bas, thought it was disappointing. “I had bought this ticket mainly to support Matthijs Morally after his exaggerated canceling situation, and because I felt like a swirling music show à la the beautiful Saturday evening program of the time. Unfortunately it didn’t work out great,” he writes in a letter.
What then? “Mathijs hicked himself through the evening, had sunglasses all evening (as a presenter) and visibly had difficulty with the direction. The low point was that he had to announce at 11.05 pm that the final number would not be played because of the permit. Palace Soestdijk is in nature.”
Bad direction
Matthijs had to cancel the artist who would close the concert at the last minute. “The main cause was Nico Dijkshoorn who, in a failed attempt to revive DWDD times behind a silly desk, went to ‘summarize’ the evening and needed a monologue of no less than fifteen minutes.”
Visitor Bas continues: “Matthijs stood next to it, but did not intervene. All in all little music, and the music that was there was from an extended Danny Vera, who announced that he was going on vacation now, Douwe Bob, who said he had had a difficult time, and some artists, like Angela Groothuizen.”
Breathrest
That Angela is better off keeping her mouth shut, says the concert goer. “She no longer has a breath support at the end of every stanza. Too bad, I am a fan of Matthijs, but this was bad and it is the start of a summer tour along the open -air theaters too. There will have been the necessary harsh words backstage …”
According to him, the audience was too not amused. “We heard a lot of wild angry indignant reactions around us when we walked to the parking lot. Of course you have to close such a show with something musical, not with a monologue from Nico, and a stammering apology from Matthijs.”
The first time
Bas finds Matthijs’s amateurism. “He literally said,” Yes, this is also the first time for us, some things we still have to learn, and there is a curfew, we can’t show the band anymore. ”
