No expensive advisors or long meetings, but the fantasy of a 9-year-old from Hoogeveen. Matthias Jacobs gave the ‘new Arend’ apartment building its name, namely Grote Trap.

A group of local residents has gathered in front of the De Arend apartment building. In front of the entrance there is an easel with a black canvas over it. Matthias walks over to it, pulls it off and voilà, the name he came up with with his family is displayed large on a sign.

“Great Bustard is a species of bird and the new apartment also resembles a staircase because of the different heights it has. This is also the bird neighborhood and the name is easy to remember,” Matthias beams as he talks about his entry.

When asked how cool it is that his name will soon be immortalized, Matthias does not have to think long. “Very cool.” Local residents also understand the choice. “It really just becomes a staircase,” says someone. “Tough and well thought out,” adds a young lady.
