Matthew compares Süle with Pavard and ennobles Kobel

Borussia Dortmund scored an important victory against Eintracht Frankfurt (2-1) in the Bundesliga. BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel played a large part in this, driving the SGE strikers to despair with some outstanding saves. Niklas Süle also convinced, as “Sky” expert Lothar Matthäus emphasized after the game.

Borussia Dortmund’s head coach Edin Terzic has called up national player Niklas Süle again as a right-back. The summer newcomer, who was actually planned for the defense headquarters, had already helped out in the Champions League against Manchester City (0-0) on the wing, as BVB are missing two trained right-backs in Thomas Meunier and Mateu Morey.

Süle did a very good job defensively (sport.de grade 2.0) and even initiated BVB’s second goal on the offensive by speeding up the pace.

As far as record national player Lothar Matthäus is concerned, the 27-year-old has proven that he can also take on that role at the World Cup in Qatar: “He has already played that at Bayern and we are also looking for the players on the left and in the national team back right that Hansi Flick can rely on.”

Süle “could be in Dortmund what Pavard is in Munich,” added Matthäus. The Frenchman feels most comfortable in Bayern’s central defence, but is usually deployed on the right-hand side of defence.

Matthäus ennobles Kobel: “You can also win titles with a goalkeeper like that”

Player of the game in Frankfurt was Süle’s teammate Gregor Kobel, who thwarted several top-class chances for Eintracht.

“Dortmund now have a goalkeeper who keeps their points,” praised the 61-year-old: “That has always been missing in the past to achieve even more. Of course he sometimes needs a little luck, but in two situations he has it spotted the striker and knew exactly where he was shooting. That’s how you get named player of the match.”

Thanks to Kobel, Borussia Dortmund could “perhaps get closer to Bayern Munich this season. You can also win titles with a goalkeeper like that, because a goalkeeper is crucial”. The Swiss also has “a great future ahead of him,” said Matthäus.

The “Sky” expert also had a clear opinion on the penalty that was not given in the first half, when Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi pushed his opponent Jesper Lindström in the penalty area: “It wasn’t a small physical contact, but a clear pushing and pushing away. That’s why it was Lucky for Dortmund that the referee didn’t award the penalty.”
