Third test, third win – albeit with difficulty: Bundesliga club Schalke 04 won their preparatory game against third division club SC Verl 1-0 (0-0) and thus maintained their flawless record in the pre-season.
After a weak first half, right-back Henning Matriciani (49′) scored the winning goal for the team of new head coach Frank Kramer, who made a complete substitution at the break.
Schalke had previously won against the lower-class teams TuS Blau-Weiss Lohne (7-0) and VfB Hüls (14-0).
