Almost all cycling greats started, but there can only be the best. Mathieu van der Poel was the first to cross the line at Paris-Roubaix on Sunday. With that he writes the cobblestone classic to his name for the third time in a row, unique.

Van der Poel is the third cyclist ever to win Paris-Roubaix for three consecutive years. Earlier, only Octave Lapize (1909-1911) and Francesco Moser (1978-1980) succeeded.

Last week the flying Dutchman finished third in the Tour of Flanders. Then he had to take it against the Slovenian winner Tadej Pogacar and the Dane Mads Pedersen. Sunday they had it checked.

Last month Van der Poel won the classic Milan-San Remo.
