In the Freiburg victory at the start of the Europa League, in addition to goalkeeper Noah Atubolu, especially the goal shooters – both on the double six.
With the triumph in the international derby, SC Freiburg has put a dream start into the Europa League. The effective Breisgauer defeated FC Basel at the Atmospheric competitive premiere of the neighborhood duel with 2: 1 (1: 0). “The mood was exceptional, even when you get warm. You realized that it is not only something for us, but also for the fans. Wonderful that we can celebrate it with the win. It was really a starting to measure for us,” said Freiburg captain Christian Günter after the game to SWR Sport.
Defensive midfield with two goals for Freiburg
In the deserved and only somewhat shaky success, the defensive midfielder Patrick Osterhage (31st minute) and Maximilian Eggestein (57th) met for SC. “We haven’t had that we both met in one game yet,” said goal scorer Eggestein after the game. “We both have planned to become a bit more dangerous this season and are very happy that we could implement it directly together.”
And even outside the field, the double -six Osterhage/Eggestein got on very well, says Eggestein. “Patrick is a super boy, we get along well and are often traveling together in our free time.” A connection in the defensive midfield of the Breisgauer, which could prove to be valuable again and again this season.
SC Freiburg with third victory in a row
After a weak start of the season, the shape curve at the Breisgauer shows further up, slowly the consistency comes. Because after the two league defeats at the start, the Freiburgers now celebrated three competitive games in a row. “The international break came at the right time,” said Eggestein. “In retrospect, you can say that the defeats opened our eyes a bit. We sat down and discussed things openly and honestly. We are glad that it worked so quickly.”
Especially with the Clear 1: 4 clap against 1. FC Köln At the end of August, a “really bad game was played, especially we defended really badly,” Eggestein said self -critically and listed the defending in the penalty area and the interaction of the individual chains as special points. “We don’t make them perfect now, but definitely better,” he added.
Atubolu shines with several parades
Defensively, the sports club only allowed the Swiss a few chances, but most of them were goalkeeper Noah Atubolu on the spot and performed well. Both against Albian Ajeti (2nd) and Arlet Junior Zé (45th), he had reacted at lightning speed from the very shortest distance. “This is the art of the goalkeeper to be there in the corresponding moments,” enthused coach Julian Schuster at “RTL Nitro” from the keeper: “He is simply a big support, radiates great certainty. That gives me a good feeling and – much more important – also to his teammates.”
Only when Philip Otele (84th) was late was Atubolu. Most recently he had already in the Bundesliga set up a record in series with five penalty made in series. And so at SC Freiburg, self -confidence has returned after the successful results. Next Sunday (3:30 p.m., live in the audio stream of the Sportschau), the Baden-Württemberg duel against TSG Hoffenheim is already waiting for the next difficult task before continuing on Thursday (02.10., 6:45 p.m.) at FC Bologna in the Europa League.
