Jumbo-Visma tried to roll out the red carpet for leader David Dekker, but the Dutch sprinter fell due to a clogged traffic island in the final kilometre. And that on a descending road. The result: a huge crash.
The entire peloton was eliminated, except for Timo Roosen, Edoardo Affini and Chris Harper. The teammates of Jumbo-Visma were allowed to compete for the victory. Roosen proved to be the strongest in a sprint, and to everyone’s surprise, cheerfully raised two arms in the air.
“I didn’t see the crash,” the rider later said on Twitter. “Of course that’s not the way I want a stage to end. I hope everyone is okay.”
