««Nand times of grief, Australians never fail to draw closer to each other with a deep sense of unity and resolve,” they wrote King Charles III and Queen Camilla in their message of condolence sent yesterday to the people of one of the major Commonwealth countries. The sovereign, head of state of Australia, was, in fact, among the first world leaders to react to the tragic shooting that occurred on Sunday 14 December, during the celebration of a Jewish holiday on Bondi Beach, in Sydney. «I know that the community spirit and love that shines so brightly in Australia – and the light at the heart of the holiday of Chanukkah – will always triumph over the darkness of such an evil act», concluded Carlo.

The pain of King Charles III and Queen Camilla

“My wife and I are shocked and saddened by this shocking anti-Semitic terrorist attack, carried out against Jews who were taking part in the Chanukah celebrations on Bondi Beach,” wrote the British monarch in his message released yesterday. “Our thoughts go out to all those who have been so terribly affected, including the police officers who were injured while protecting members of their community.”

The monarch then praised the emergency services and the spirit of unity and determination demonstrated once again by Australians: “We appreciate the courage of the police, emergency services and members of the public whose heroic actions have undoubtedly prevented even greater horrors and tragedies.”

William – future head of the Commonwealth – follows his father’s example

This was echoed in William and Kate’s personal message of condolence, also released yesterday on social media. “Today our thoughts are with every Australian,” wrote the Princes of Wales. “We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives and we stand with the Jewish community in their grief.”

William and Kate also praised the emergency services

«We also think of the courage of the rescuers, in particular the two injured officers», added the Prince of Wales who, in spring 2014, visited Australia bringing with them their firstborn George, who was just eight months old at the time. Last summer, during a private visit to Balmoral, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese invited them again. And this time he cordially urged them to bring all three children with them, including little Louis who, unlike George and Charlotte, has never taken part in a Royal tour abroad.
