National tennis player Zeynep Sönmez said goodbye to the French Open (Roland Garros), the second grand slam tennis tournament of the season, due to an injury in the doubles category.

In the organization held in the capital Paris, Zeynep Sönmez and German Tatjana Maria faced the Ukrainian couple Anhelina Kalinina-Dayana Yastremska in the second round.

In the first set, where they were 2-0 behind, Zeynep tripped over an advertising sign and fell while running to catch the ball.

Zeynep, who was intervened by the medical team, had to withdraw from the match after suffering an injury.

COMMON DEMAND FROM PLAYERS

A common request came from the players after Zeynep Sönmez’s knee injury required two stitches.

From Zeynep’s social media account, “Are we going to wait for someone to get seriously injured before these advertisements on the sidelines are removed?” After her post, British tennis player Katie Boulter also shared a post.

Boulter, who survived a similar danger on Thursday, shared: “Player safety should be a priority. They should be removed from the field immediately.”

Polish Iga Swiatek, four-time French Open champion, and Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk also said that they sometimes do not chase the ball due to fear of injury and that these advertisements should be removed.
