“That is not true, impossible and without logical sense,” was the synthetic post that Carlos Maslaton he wrote in his personal X account. Moments before, the financial analyst uploaded a photograph to his social networks accompanying the former president Christina Fernandez de Kirchner. The comments regarding such an image were highlighted by several users who speculated about an ideological pole vault by the activist of the UCeDé to the Justicialist cadres.

The unexpected meeting between the former president and the lawyer took place this Thursday at the leader’s home located in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Constitución, where she is serving house arrest after her conviction in the case. Roads. Maslatón himself was the one who revealed the meeting through an extensive post on the X social network, accompanied by political reflections, biblical quotes and personal references that quickly generated an impact.

“I had wanted to talk to her for years to analyze part of what happened in Argentina, especially since October 2011, when unfortunately the national rift was generated due to mutual incomprehension of messages and political intentions,” wrote the former councilor of the Democratic Center Unionwho defines himself as a classical liberal and is known on social networks for his publications and comments on economics.

The text, which opens with a quote from the Gospel according to Saint Matthew – “Blessed are those who suffer persecution for the sake of justice, because theirs is the kingdom of heaven” – seeks to draw a parallel between the judicial processes faced by the former president and what Maslatón interprets as a case of lawfare. “These maxims of Jesus Christ were expressed in the year 29 in front of a group of Jews who lived on the shores of the Sea of Galilee, in Judea occupied by the Roman Empire,” he wrote, later maintaining that these messages “are applicable to current injustices.”

The lawyer reported that he found the former vice president “well and strong,” and confessed to having told her that he was “very critical of her government in 2012 and 2013.” During the conversation, both reviewed the economic situation and the “financial errors of the current government.” Maslatón claimed to have reiterated his conviction that Cristina was “sentenced with politically motivated criteria” and emphasized that, as a member of the political generation that emerged in 1983, he does not accept “imprisoning the adversary to ban him from electoral competition.”

Carlos Maslaton

There was also room for international topics. According to the liberal’s story, they discussed the cause AMIA and relationships with Iran and Israel. Maslatón recalled a meeting he had in 2010 with the then Israeli president Shimon Pereswho—according to him—would have expressed “his gratitude for the efforts of Cristina and Néstor Kirchner” and deeply regretted the death of the former Argentine president.

The meeting, according to Maslatón, was managed by the leader Eduardo Valdeshistorical friend of Peronism. “I lived with him in university politics during the democratic transition and in the City, he being general secretary of the Municipality and I being a councilor for the UCeDé,” he said. The text concludes with a conciliatory tone: “I wish all the best to CFK, appreciated by a large part of the population and who deserves respect. In his eight years of government he had successes and mistakes, like everyone else, but he tried to do what was best for the country.”

Cristina Kirchner

Shortly after, her own Cristina Kirchner He confirmed the meeting from his social networks. “How good the talk yesterday with Carlos Maslatón, when he came to visit me at San José 1111,” wrote the former president. And he added: “The best thing about that talk was what was not said, but that is implicit: the possibility of talking, sharing and even agreeing on many things that our country needs to build together, between two people who come from different life stories and political militancy, at times antagonistic.”

It is not the first time that both have exchanged words. In May 2023, after an interview by Cristina Kirchner on the program “Hard to Tame”Maslatón had had a brief exchange with her behind the camera. However, this time, the dialogue was more extensive and political, an unusual gesture that revives debates about the bridges—and the cracks—that still cross the Argentine scene.
