The ex-married couple, Martina Aitolehti and Esko Eerikäinen, once had completely different Christmas traditions. The two talk over the Christmas holidays Martina & Esko – in the new episode of their joint podcast.

They also go over their disastrous New Year’s trip to Rome, Italy. The couple had huge expectations for the resort, which was also titled the city of love, but the truth was different.

– First of all, the weather was shocking, it rained so much and all that energy had to be frozen. Our hotel room was terrible, Aitolehti lists.

– We fought all the time, Eerikäinen says.

Eerikäinen remembers the ex-couple’s “senseless quarrel” in, for example, the Dolce & Gabbana store. Aitolehti could not tolerate Eerikäinen’s snobbery in the couple’s quarrels.

– I thought how is this possible, that I spend New Year’s Eve alone in a terrible hotel room in Rome. That’s why you got mad. You took your bag and went for a walk, says Aitolehti.

Eerikäinen says that he thought that Aitolehti would stop him and ask him not to leave.

– This was what I admire about you now, but then I would hate that side. When you didn’t [pysäyttänyt]so I protested and packed my things and left. In the hotel corridor, I wonder where the hell I’m going, Eerikäinen says.

He says that he went to a nearby pizzeria and was still waiting for Aitolehti to call, where he would beg Eerikai back. There was no call, and Eerikäinen ended up at the train station in Rome. He couldn’t sleep because his stuff would probably be stolen.

– I was there until around three or four in the morning. I remember that it was really tiring, and I thought that there was nothing else to do but go back to the hotel, Eerikäinen’s time.

– It was the worst new year ever, there’s never been anything like it, he says.

Aitolehti and Eerikäinen ended up getting married in 2007 after only three months of dating. The stormy relationship finally ended in divorce in 2011. After two years of marriage, they had a daughter together Victoria.
