The Dutch relay swimmers won the title in the 4×50 meter freestyle at the European Short Course Championships in Lublin, Poland. Marrit Steenbergen (25) from Geldrop, together with Milou van Wijk, Tessa Giele and Valerie van Roon, achieved a time of 1.33.85.
This put them ahead of Italy and Poland.
The Netherlands was also the fastest in the series in the morning, but did not get along very well with Van Wijk. Steenbergen, who did not play in the series, closed the gap with Italy.
Thanks to a strong final sprint, Van Roon passed Italy. The gold in the 4×50 free was the first medal for the Netherlands during this tournament.
