Marc Márquez may be in his last race of the MotoGP season this weekend in Italy. The six-time world champion of Honda has again had surgery on his right arm.

The operation will take place after the Italian Grand Prix, which will be held this weekend. Márquez is waiting for a rehabilitation of about five months after the surgery and it seems likely that his season is over. The last race of the season is in just over five months (on November 6).

The new surgery will be his fourth operation for 29-year-old Márquez since his crash on July 19, 2020 in Jerez, Spain. Since then, the Spaniard has undergone three operations on his upper arm and two bone grafts.

Last April, Márquez returned during the Grand Prix of Portugal. He has since won races in the United States and Germany, but he says he was still hampered by his physical problems following the crash in Spain.

“I absolutely cannot enjoy this season,” Marquez said on Saturday. “I’m struggling, I’m in pain and I have no strength. Besides, my performance isn’t good enough and I want to do better.”

Marquéz has not yet been on the podium this season. The Honda leader was missing during the GPs in Indonesia and Argentina due to double vision, but according to the doctors, an intervention came too early during that period. Márquez is tenth in the standings, 48 points behind leader Fabio Quartararo.
