The US fashion and lifestyle group Marquee Brands LLC has expanded its portfolio to include a prominent name. On Thursday the company announced the acquisition of the traditional British brand Laura Ashley. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed. Laura Ashley previously belonged to the financial investor Gordon Brothers.
Founded in 1953, the brand’s global licensing model is a “seamless addition” to Marquee Brands’ portfolio, said CEO Heath Golden in a statement. The group now owns 17 labels from the Home & Culinary, Fashion & Lifestyle and Active & Outdoor sectors. These include, among others, Ben Sherman, Dakine and Martha Stewart.
Marquee Brands said it would take over Laura Ashley’s UK-based team. As part of the transaction, the group will also expand its “global footprint” by opening its first European headquarters in London.
According to the new owner, Laura Ashley is currently active in more than 200 product categories through collaboration with over 100 licensing partners. The brand’s items are offered through various sales channels in more than 80 countries worldwide.
