DOW JONES–Europe’s stock exchanges significantly increased their profits on Monday afternoon. The DAX gained 0.6 percent to 21,036 points, a new all-time high was set at 21,055. The Euro Stoxx 50 gained 0.6 percent to 5,178. A report in the Wall Street Journal provides support, according to which Donald Trump will not implement any new tariffs on the day of his inauguration. That doesn’t mean he won’t do this again, the trade says, but the article underlines the hope that Trump’s tariff policy will ultimately not be as harmful as initially announced.

On Monday, Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the USA in Washington, and it feels like he has been at the helm for days. The inauguration will be in the foreground in the media, but Trump will only take his oath of office after trade closes in Europe. Then it will be exciting to see which of his announced decrees he will sign immediately and then give impetus to the capital markets on Tuesday. There will be no trading on Wall Street on Monday as it will be closed for the Martin Luther King Memorial Day.

The biggest movements are likely to take place in the US dollar, at least the Commonwealth Bank of Australia believes. While analysts expect him to sign dozens of executive orders on his first day in office, they see expectations of direct political consequences as too high. Therefore, the dollar is likely to weaken. At the beginning of the week, the euro appreciated sharply to $1.0420 according to the report in the Wall Street Journal. Yields are falling in the bond markets. Bitcoin is now rising to over $107,000 as investors are betting on a crypto-friendly US government.

The preliminary figures for Lanxess’s fourth quarter were very well received on the stock market, with the share price increasing by 6.5 percent. EBITDA before special items was around 159 million euros in the final quarter, 29 percent above the Jefferies analysts’ estimate. EBITDA of around 614 million euros is now expected for the full year, which is at the upper end of the company’s EBITDA growth range of 10-20 percent. The fourth quarter was positively influenced by an unexpectedly strong December. As a result, BASF rose 2.6 percent and Evonik 1.9 percent.

Hypoport figures are well received

Hypoport has a rate of 9.4 percent – the company recorded a significant increase in business volume in the real estate segment in the fourth quarter. Formycon (+1.6%) can market its biosimilar to the eye drug Eylea in the European Union. As the TecDAX company announced, the EU Commission has granted approval for “FYB203” with the active ingredient aflibercept under the brand names “Ahzantive” and “Baiama”. After another order worth 330 million euros from the Bundeswehr Rheinmetall gains 0.9 percent for the delivery of logistics vehicles.

The Spanish telecommunications group Telefonica (-2.8%) surprisingly changes its leadership. Catalan businessman Marc Murtra has been elected as Jose Maria Alvarez-Pallete’s successor. “The decision has been taken in view of Telefonica’s new shareholder structure and the fact that some of the relevant shareholders have expressed the desire to initiate a new phase in the leadership of the board,” the company said.

After the unexpected death of CEO Klemens Haselsteiner, the Strabag share price in Vienna fell by 1.2 percent.

Siemens Energy’s shares, on the other hand, are trading 2.8 percent lower after UBS lowered the vote to “sell” and the price target of 23 euros is well below the current price level. After Friday’s price jump, Suss Microtec lost 5.1 percent at the beginning of the week.
