Market values Super League: Ugrinic on the rise – loss of status for Ballmoos

Young Boys in the focus of the update

Transfermarkt has subjected the Super League to a market value update. The biggest winners can be attributed to the BSC Young Boys: Above all, Filip Ugrinic, Meschack Elia and Cedric Itten can look forward to a big increase. The reigning Swiss champions and cup winners are underpinning their status as a club with the highest squad value – although the YB also have to complain about some losses and FC Lugano has recorded the largest increase in value.

The most valuable player in the league remains Lucerne’s defensive player Ardon Jashari, despite a drop from 7.5 million to 6.5 million euros. The 21-year-old does have convincing stats for a defensive midfielder, with five goals in 14 games. Oliver Zesiger, Area Manager Switzerland at Transfermarkt, explains why the devaluation still occurs: “Jashari aggressively flirted with a move to FC Basel in the summer. This not only cost him the captain’s armband, but also a few games. In addition, he was complicit in conceding goals against Hibernian on the international stage and lost his place in the Swiss national team. He’s now a regular player again, but the drama from the summer still resonates.”

BSC midfielder Ugrinic, on the other hand, made himself indispensable for his club. The 24-year-old managed seven goals in 13 games across all competitions. Consequently, the right foot jumps from 2.7 million to 4 million euros, which corresponds to an increase of 48 percent. No other professional has seen such an increase in value. Zesiger says: “Ugrinic had a strong start to the new season, and not just in the league. The 24-year-old also scored in the Champions League qualifier against Maccabi Haifa, paving the way to reaching the group stage. He was also called up for the Swiss national team for the first time. All of this was taken into account when increasing the market value of Ugrinic.”

Ugrinic’s teammate Elia increases from 5 million to 6 million euros (+20%) and can now call himself the second most valuable player in the Super League. The attacker provided six goal assists in 14 matches. “The Congo international impresses with his depth play. Elia gives the Young Boys’ attacks a different dimension. He is also one of the fastest players in the league. In the Champions League he also played a crucial role in YB’s success with a goal and two assists,” says Zesiger, explaining the change in the 26-year-old.

Market values Super League: Cedric Itten convinces – FC Luzern with the biggest squad increase

Cedric Itten was similarly convincing. The former Rangers and Fürth professional demonstrated his cool-headedness at the start of the season. His personal share is now 4.5 million instead of 4 million euros (+12.5%). Switzerland expert Zesiger explains: “Itten does the primary task of a center forward excellently. Seven goals in 15 games, spread across all competitions, is a strong figure. He also recently scored a goal for the national team. At 27 years old he is in the prime of his creativity.”

Things went less well for BSC keeper David von Ballmoos. The 28-year-old had to struggle with a loss of status as a result of a knee injury; his value fell from 2.5 million to 1.5 million euros (-40%). TM Area Manager CH Zesiger refers to von Ballmoos’ return from that same injury in the devaluation. “According to the Young Boys’ communication, he is only number two behind Anthony Racioppi and will be used in the cup rather than the championship.”

In addition to Racioppi (from 1.7 million to 2.2 million euros), Aurèle Amenda (from 2 million to 3 million euros) and Lukasz Lakomy (from 2 million to 2.5 million euros) can join the BSC. look forward to a significant increase. However, things are going downhill for Kastriot Imeri (from 6 million to 5 million euros), Darian Males (from 5 million to 4.2 million euros), Jean-Pierre Nsame (from 3.5 million to 3 million euros) and Ebrima Colley (from 3 million to 2.6 million euros). That is why the Bernese squad value has only increased slightly, with an increase of 1.9 million euros to 58.3 million euros.

With Lugano (+5.3 million to 29.5 million euros), FC Zurich (+3.3 million to 18.8 million euros), Yverdon-Sport (+2.6 million euros to 14 million euros) and FC Winterthur (+2.3 million euros), four clubs have a larger plus on their side. The biggest jump in market value outside of Bern was achieved as part of the update by, among others, Alvyn Sanches (Lausanne-Sport; from 800,000 euros to 1.7 million euros), Lars Villiger (FC Luzern; from 400,000 euros to 1.2 million euros), Rares Ilie (Lausanne-Sport; from 2.5 million euros to 3.2 million euros) and Jonathan Okita (FC Zurich; from 1.3 million euros to 2 million euros).

This is how transfer market market values work

The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.

The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
