Update league 1
Transfermarkt has updated the market values of the Romanian Liga 1 and re-evaluated 138 players as part of this. The biggest winner is attacker Octavian Popescu from second-placed FCSB: The 19-year-old recorded an increase of 1.1 million euros and is now one of the five most valuable players in the league with a new market value of 3 million euros.
With ten goals in 26 games, the left winger left his mark on his team’s game this season. The latter did not go unnoticed by national coach Edward Iordanescu, who called the 1.80 meter tall offensive player into the Romanian A-Elf for the first time this week. Popescu collected his first international minutes against Greece and Israel.
According to media reports, Steaua already had a lucrative offer of 13 million euros for Popescu from Serie A last summer, but club owner George “Gigi” Becali rejected it with the following reason: “Because he is a player, for which you can get 50 million euros. If I give it up for 13, that means I’ll never get 50 again. (…) Maybe I’ll ask for more, because if I keep him for three years, I can get 100 million.” Popescu’s current contract is dated until 2024.
Hlozek, Adeyemi & Co.: The most valuable U21 strikers
The currently top scorer in the league can also look forward to an increase in his market value: Jefté Betancor from FCV Farul (15 goals this season) is up EUR 300,000 to EUR 1.6 million. Claudiu Petrila from the champion and table leader CFR Cluj also makes an equal jump. After a previous loan to Sepsi OSK, the 21-year-old had developed into a real alternative on the offensive of coach and Romanian legend Dan Petrescu in the current season and has scored six goals and three assists to date. Petrila, whose new market value is estimated at 1.4 million euros, was linked to Hertha BSC in the last winter transfer window.

Market values Romania: Tanase remains most valuable player, minus for Coman
Teammate Andrei Burca was also able to record an increase as part of this update. For the 28-year-old, who climbs into the top 3 of the most valuable League 1 professionals and is an indispensable part of the starting XI of Petrescu, the goal is 200,000 euros more.
While Steaua’s midfielder Florin Tanase remains at the top of the Romanian market value ranking with a market value of 5.5 million euros, fellow player Florinel Coman has to accept another devaluation. The 23-year-old suffered from a groin injury for almost the entire first half of the season, but has recently been sporadically collecting playing times again. For the right footer, it’s down by 500,000 euros to 3 million euros – the sum represents the biggest loss in this update.
