All 527 Premier League players have received a new market value – including twelve German legionnaires. As part of this update, there is a new addition to the ranks of professionals beyond the 100 million mark, major upgrades and devaluations for ex-Bayern and a market value of 30 million euros for a 17-year-old talent who is in the Premier League It was used for 76 minutes.
The biggest winner is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, whose form and market value curve has risen sharply since he left Manchester City. The most dangerous player in the Premier League behind Mohamed Salah (22 scorers), with 17 scorer points, is mainly responsible for the fact that things are going better for the second-placed Blues in the league than they have been since 2017. In the summer of 2023, Chelsea paid 47 million euros for Palmer’s services, today his market value has climbed from 90 million to 130 million euros, making him one of the twelve most valuable footballers in the world – Palmer is currently on a par with Bayern’s Jamal Musiala and Leverkusen Florian Wirtz, who also shine in the attacking midfield.
“I didn’t want to go to Chelsea at all. I was persuaded,” said Palmer recently, who is now by far the most valuable professional in the London squad. Palmer secures the biggest plus in the league and pushes Chelsea’s squad value over the billion mark.
The league leaders from Liverpool are also approaching this total again. After nine upgrades and six devaluations, the Reds’ squad value rose by 36 million to 967 million euros – the fact that this is not even higher is due to the age of top performers such as Virgil van Dijk (-5 to 25 million), Mohamed Salah ( 55 million) and keeper Alisson (-3 to 25 million), who are 33 and 32 years old respectively. Ryan Gravenberch only celebrated his 22nd birthday this May, climbing from 40 million to 55 million euros and earning the biggest plus at Anfield Road.
Ben Littlemore, Premier League expert at Transfermarkt, says of the ex-Bayern player: “Gravenberch’s transformation under new coach Arne Slot has been incredible. Nobody expected him to be slotted into the defensive midfield position, but he has played brilliantly as Liverpool’s back six and is one of the reasons the Reds are at the top. Gravenberch is probably the best defensive midfielder in the league so far.” The Munich team brought the Dutchman from Ajax Amsterdam for 18.5 million euros in 2022 and transferred him to Anfield Road for 40 million euros in 2023.
Meanwhile, things aren’t going nearly as well for another Dutch ex-Bayern player as they are for Gravenberch: Matthijs de Ligt finished in a disappointing 13th place with Manchester United and was devalued from 55 million to 45 million euros.
England expert Littlemore says: “De Ligt, like many new signings at Man United, had difficulty impressing straight away at Old Trafford. He often seemed too slow, was responsible for conceding a few goals and his game in the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool was like a nightmare. Some fans have subsequently referred to him as the Dutch Harry Maguire. His market value will be devalued to the 45 million euros that United paid for him this summer.” De Ligt is one of 13 market value losers at the Red Devils, whose squad value fell by 59.5 million euros to 794.7 million euros sinks. Speaking of Dutch ex-Bayern: Joshua Zirkzee (-8 to 42 million) was also given the red pencil.
Stumbling Man City loses 71 million in squad value
Series champions Manchester City have also had a disappointing season so far and this is now noticeable in the market values. Pep Guardiola is currently despairing of his team, which has only won one of its last eleven games and left the pitch as a loser eight times. Twelve downgrades and only two upgrades resulted in a loss in squad value of 71 million euros – with 1.19 billion euros, the Citizens remain number two in the world in the squad value ranking.
Arsenal defended third place in this discipline with 1.15 billion euros despite a loss of 18.5 million euros. This would have been even bigger if it weren’t for homegrown player Ethan Nwaneri, who rose from 12 million to 30 million euros and is now one of the five most valuable footballers in the world under the age of 17.
Littlemore explains the big plus: “Nwaneri is one of the most exciting young players in England and arguably the most talented to emerge from the Gunners’ academy in a long time. He broke the record for youngest Premier League player when he came on as a substitute in the 3-0 win against Brentford aged just 15 years, five months and 28 days, and he has regularly flashed his enormous potential this season. Nwaneri is expected to become an important player for the north London club in the future.” He scored four goals in 305 minutes across 14 appearances – 104 minutes of which were in the Premier League.
The market value of Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers also climbed by 18 million euros, which is now valued at 40 million euros. The 22-year-old offensive all-rounder has been part of the English national team since November and has been with the Birmingham club since his €9.4 million transfer in January 2024 from second-tier Middlesbrough. “He has become a key player for Unai Emery’s team this season, almost always on the field in both the league and the premier class and being involved in six goals. Although his scoring values are not yet outstanding, some of his performances were still outstanding. “Consequently, he was recently allowed to play twice for the Three Lions,” says England expert Littlemore.
Three devaluations for German players in the Premier League
Of the twelve German professionals in the Premier League, nine players have confirmed their market value. These include Arsenal’s Kai Havertz (75 million) as well as Brajan Gruda (25 million), who has been plagued by injuries since their summer transfer and has not yet got going at Brighton, and Niclas Füllkrug (15 million), who has the same at West Ham applies.
Due to age, Man City’s İlkay Gündoğan (-2 to 10 million) and Fulham’s number one Bernd Leno (-2 to 11 million) are devalued, while Timo Werner (-2 to 15 million) is downgraded due to performance. Werner, who was loaned to Tottenham from RB Leipzig and rarely goes beyond the joker role, was recently publicly criticized by coach Ange Postecoglou after the 1-1 draw against Glasgow Rangers: “His performance in the first half was unacceptable.”
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
